This twig, hanging on by a thread for over a year, is no longer present. I know this because I have tried to photograph it in every single season. Trying to capture the perfect angle so that we can all “spot the cross.” Through the winter snow, the buds of spring, and the fallen leaves of autumn, I watched it… just hangin’ on.
The same wind that brought these two together, ultimately caused them to fall apart.
Isn’t that just the thing? We have our routines, our schedules, our ways of life. And, BAM, just like that… the wind changed direction and the seasons change. Do we fall? Or do we hang on tight against the breezes that blow?
Ahhh, May… summer is coming and the school calendar is dwindling. OR, rather, the school calendar has exploded in a fury of end-of-school-year-hoorahs. I have become the mom throwing whatever I can into lunch bags. I marvel at the plentiful array of processed junk that I have just excellently squeezed into their lunch box. Gently patting myself on the back over coffee, it hits me that I cannot decipher my very own “well-done” and “bless your heart” pats. Lunch-box fatigue, Check.
As the leaves fill the trees and the flowers bloom we are reminded that HOLY #@*!, it’s already MAY??!!! Better get the yard on my “things to do list.”… but, wait, who has time for the yard??!
Dear 2019, it’s fine. You can go on and pump your breaks. I’ve got stuff to do.
The struggle is real, people… We spend the winter looking forward to summer (except me, I adore winter). Alas, she is here. Now what?!
From “it’s time for camp,” to “mom I’m bored,” to “get off of the video games!”… and everything in between. We are all just hanging in there. Even our kids, who blink and their summer is over. Listen, people… none of us, including our kids, are gettin’ any younger. Our schedules lend themselves to propulsion of days, weeks, months and years.
So, take these summer days. Hang in and hang on, even when the winds whirl around us, let us be mindful of the grace it brings.
Grace is the strength to hold on when the wind blows~ even in a direction you don’t want it to… The Lord gives us hands to hold on… and to let go. Truly when we close our eyes in the face of falling, we just may see that we are bound to Him.
Let us let the winds transform us, just as the seasons. When a branch is just a branch, and a twig is just a twig …UNTIL the wind blows and we “spot the cross.”
