Time’s Up.

No hashtag. No black dress. No pin on a lapel. No protest.

Just two words, shortened from three by an apostrophe.

While these two words have become more popular in recent months, they are really nothing new.  When you hear these words, do you think of their meaning? Or do you think of them as a movement?

Time’s up. Who decides when Time is REALLY up? (apologies to my grandfather in heaven for ending the question with a preposition!)

We are born, we live, we die.  All of those variables are decided by one. Only one. He is the one with the clock. He decides when our Time’s Up.

So, as the seconds roll, how do you spend your time? Is it wasted in frivolities? Is it filled with priorities in order?

Personally, my time rolls by in daily tasks. I wake, make lunches, put in a load of laundry, get the kids to school, exercise, work, more laundry, pick up the kids from school, more laundry, get kids to practices, cook dinner, watch my teenage son do homework for fifteen hours, more laundry, and get my youngest to sleep. Then, most days are punctuated with feet up staring at the laundry trophy that I have proudly accumulated throughout the day. I will pat myself on the back on a job well done (let’s not forget the wine) and decide that they are clean; and that folding is overrated.

Seconds smoothly flow on the clock. There is no ticking, no abrupt pause in between moments. They flow like a racers clock.

Literally, like sand through the hourglass (insert Soap opera intro here) our days unfold.

Until they don’t.

We cannot know when the Time’s Up. Only the maker has our timesheet. He clocks us in and He clocks us out (again, the preposition!). It’s up to us to make use of the hours in between. Go for the bonus, the time and a half, and the overtime pay. Reach your quota, and then some.

Stop reading this blog right now (I mean pause and come back to it:) and call someone you love. Hug someone. Text someone. For heavens sake WRITE to someone with pen and paper.

Congratulations. You have just fulfilled His will for you. You have made your boss smile. I’m talkin’ full on Employee of the Month *h*t.

And, when Time’s Up on those you love, you can only hope that your parting words were special, kind, and meaningful. My Aunt was called home this week; I am so blessed to have had those final words between us be all of those things. I weep for myself; and for missing her earthly body in my life. But, I find such peace in her heavenly transformation; when our Time’s Up on earth means that Time’s never up in heaven.

Go and live your seconds today.
