Miss Jackson, if you’re…

For the record, I always try to avoid talking and typing politics. They suck. Like a dog chasing it’s tail, we spin around aimlessly resulting in nothing but being dizzy. That is how I feel about politics. Now, having said that… How can you not talk politics in this crazy world we live in? (We’ll save the “crazy world” post for another day.) Soooo,
I had the pleasure of seeing “The State of the World” tour with Janet Jackson. JANET FREAKING JACKSON. Listen world, we can all take notes from the evening…
It did not take long to notice the vibe. I can say it was happy, just downright happy. It was like the old Jesus song that my grandmother used to sing while she rocked me to the tune, “Red and Yellow, Black and White, we are precious in His sight…” I quote the song, people, not the colors. Anyway, one could take note right away. Gay, straight, black, white, young, old and everything in-between. All under one roof. All smiling. All having fun TOGETHER. How awesome. And the show had not even started. Then, it happened… it began. It began with loud, controversial images of the “State of the World” on the giant screens. Images of hunger, war, hurt, hate and the names of unarmed African American men popping into the air between us all. I was taken aback; hypnotised by the noise, the images, and the thoughts. Thank GOD it stopped and her music began. With one closing of a light show and opening of the music, we were all one. Literally, y’all. It was amazing. We danced in the aisles with other colors, ages, types. Every seat was the same, no matter how high or low. We hugged on to women of different color; and they hugged us back. We shared the music, we shared the air, and we shared the moment. That evening, in that building, with those people, in that moment was THE STATE OF THE WORLD.
